Assistant Project Manager

Description

Assist with coordination, usually through project manager and foremen, activities concerned with the installation of piping for field projects. Participate in the conceptual development of a process piping project and assist with its organization, scheduling and implementation.

Qualifications

  • Education

    Preferred, but not required, a Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Engineering or equivalent, degree/experience combination.

  • Years of Relevant Work Experience

    Approximately 2 years of experience in the HVAC process piping industry.

  • Certificates/Licenses

    Valid Drivers license. Satisfactory driving record.

  • Physical Job Requirements

    Must be able to work in a variety of physical positions, including sitting, standing walking and driving. Will require occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.

  • Working Conditions
    • Regular exposure to all weather conditions, especially hot, humid and/or rainy spring, summer and fall weather, combined with regular work time indoors in environmentally controlled conditions.
    • May be exposed to uncomfortable or distracting sounds or noise levels on sites of projects being managed or coordinated.
    • When working on site, will be required to wear common protective or safety equipment, such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, hard hats or harnesses.

Skills and Competencies

  • Technical Skills
    • Knowledge of administration, management, process piping materials, process piping methods and tools as well as mechanical knowledge of machines and tools.
    • Knowledge of construction drawings and standards, plans & specifications.
    • Knowledge of public safety and security issues and regulations.
  • Personal/Interpersonal Competencies

    This position requires:

    • Strong problems solving skills and analytical skills;
    • Strong attention to detail, the ability to work independently and exercise sound business judgment;
    • The ability to organize workloads to meet deadlines, the adaptability to accept change when needed;

  • Computer Skills
    • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel & computer graphics. Experience with Solid Works a plus.

Key Activities

  • Work with project manager and foremen to plan, organize and direct activities concerned with on-site installation projects.
  • Monitor and control project through administrative direction of project manager to ensure project is completed on schedule and within budget.
  • Investigate potentially serious situations, i.e., process, safety, etc. and implement corrective measures.
  • Review construction documents and understands scope of work.
  • Execute take-offs of construction documents
  • May need to obtain bids from contractors
  • May requisition supplies and materials to complete project.
  • Formulate reports concerning such areas as work progress, costs and scheduling.
  • Develops and maintains resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, government requirements, etc.

Key Performance Factors

A successful Assistant Project Manager must be able to coordinate among different levels of the organization to accomplish work activities; maintain a high degree of accuracy and exactness in the performance of this job; and assume responsibility for work outcomes.

Working Conditions

This is a full time exempt position on a construction site in the Beloit area. Business hours are between 7:00am and 5:00pm.
